Richard Janka, Psy.D., LP | Licensed Psychologist | Clinical Director | drjanka@solidgroundcounseling.com

Dr. Janka attended the University of Detroit Mercy for his undergraduate studies. There he received a double major in sociology and religious studies. He later went on to earn his Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Moody Theological Seminary. He received his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Michigan School of Psychology in 2012. Dr. Janka has worked with individuals ranging from age 15 to late adulthood as well as couples. He has experience working with anxiety, depression, AD/HD, sexual issues (including addiction and sexual disorders), PTSD, and premarital counseling. He also has experience working with police, fire, and other first responders. Dr. Janka has received specialized training in the following areas: hostage & crisis negotiation, law enforcement stress, line of duty death, and critical incident stress management. He is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Michigan Psychological Association, as well as a member of the International Association of Chiefs or Police and the Fire Service Psychology Association.

Dr. Janka is available for supervision of master’s level psychologists (TLLP or LLP).

Debbie attended William Tyndale College for her undergraduate studies, where she received a BA in Psychology. She later went on to earn her Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Moody Theological Seminary. Debbie has been trained in restorative practices and worked with the South Lyon School District for many years. She incorporates restorative practice and life experience with some of her clients. Debbie works a wide range of individuals. She works with parenting issues, depression, anxiety, marriage and life skills. Debbie usually works with individuals 16 and older, however, younger clients are taken on a case by case basis.

Scott received his undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice from Eastern Michigan University. He went on to receive his Master's in Clinical Psychology from the Michigan School of Psychology. Scott has a passion for working with first responders and the justice involved population. He draws on his experience as a police officer, family preservation worker, probation officer, and psychologist with the Michigan Department of Corrections. Scott works with juveniles, adults, and couples. He offers an empathetic, non-judgmental approach that helps foster the therapeutic relationship.

CarolAnn graduated from Central Michigan University with and undergraduate degree in Family Studies in 2016. She earned her Master’s degree in Counseling from Cornerstone University. She has a passion for providing a compassionate, helping hand to walk with clients through deep pain, disorienting life circumstances, and discouraging views of themselves. She has experience working with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, grief/loss, trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, life transitions, faith issues, and relationship issues. She uses an integrative, individualized approach to aid clients in gaining insight about themselves and taking steps toward a more fulfilling life.

Megan received her undergraduate degree in General Psychology with a minor in Social Justice from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. She earned her Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from the Michigan School of Psychology. Megan is devoted to providing therapy from a humanistic approach utilizing accurate empathy, unconditional positive regard, and congruence. She also uses DBT-based, CBT-based, and strength-based skills to provide a balanced approach to better help clients practice integral skills that promote improved overall well-being. She has experience working with all age groups, but has a passion for working with adults and late adolescents who experience anxiety, depression, life stressors, and low self-esteem.

Marissa graduated from Eastern Michigan University with an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice. She earned her Masters of Social Work from Wayne State University.  She believes everyone needs someone and is willing to be that someone for you, as long as you put forth the effort and are ready to make that first step. Her experience includes working with children up to older adults, in both individual and group settings. She has worked with depression, anxiety, trauma, substance abuse, adjustment disorders, Autism, ADD/ADHD, and couples/marital counseling. “As your therapist, my job is to support you to get through whatever obstacles life throws your way, help you map out your journey to overcome those obstacles, and take that journey with you. Mental illness is challenging but it does not define you and you can overcome it! You only live once, make it a great life, the choice is yours.”

Hannah received her undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice from Siena Heights University. And, has earned her Master's Degree in clinical psychology from the Michigan School of Psychology in July of 2022. Hannah is enthusiastic about providing a humanistic approach to therapy that is compassionate and aims to work alongside you toward a fuller understanding of yourself and your goals. She works with adults and children aged 12 and older.

John received his undergraduate degree in Communications and Urban Studies from Wayne State University and went on to receive his Master's in Counseling Psychology from the Moody Theological Seminary. John works with all types of clients and issues, but he specializes in Couples and Family counseling. He has a sincere passion to see relationships move from hurt to healed and from struggling to thriving. John employs CBT-based skills and Gottman therapeutic interventions where applicable, but also leans on concepts from Mindfulness and ACT-based skills as well. John employs Christian counseling and faith integration into the session at the client’s level of comfort.

Nicole Bialowicz, MA LMSW, CADC | Licensed Master Social Worker, Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor | nicole@solidgroundcounseling.com

Nicole completed her undergraduate degree from Spring Arbor University, receiving her Bachelor’s in Social Work, with a concentration in Psychology. She later earned her Master’s in Social Work from Madonna University in 2018. Nicole has worked in the field treating a variety of issues, but primarily specializes in trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), mental health conditions, addictions, and relationship issues. Nicole has specialized training in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), a trauma-informed therapy used to treat PTSD. She also commonly utilizes other therapeutic approaches, such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Motivational Interviewing (MI), the 12-Step Recovery Model, and employing creative arts as a creative model. She aims to practice with compassion, open-mindedness, and sincerity, and is passionate about empowering each client towards cultivating a sense of self-awareness, self-acceptance, and ultimately a sense of healing/freedom. Nicole works with ages 16 and up.

John received his undergraduate degree in Biology and Physical Education from Spring Arbor University.  He went on to get a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Moody Theological Seminary. He has also received a level two certification in Gottman Couples Therapy training. John enjoys helping people who feel stuck in a certain area of their lives to find hope, get free and then find new patterns of living that allow their lives to function better and even to thrive. He works with all types of clients and issues but he specializes in men’s issues, pornography addiction, couples therapy, pre-marriage, anxiety, grief & loss, and depression.  He employs a variety of therapeutic interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Group Therapy, and, if requested, Christian counseling—that involves the integration of biblical principles and prayer, with psychological practices that are in line with biblical truth.  He has training to work with pastors and Christian leaders who are experiencing burn out, marital issues, conflict resolution in the workplace, etc.

Devon is currently a doctoral level clinical psychology student at the Michigan School of Psychology and obtained her Masters in Clinical Health Psychology from the University of Michigan – Dearborn. Devon also has a brain injury specialization and has worked with individuals who have experienced trauma and have traumatic brain injuries for seven years. She also has experience with couples and relationships, depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress, and is familiar with a variety of stressors through her previous positions in hospitals and private practice. Through various types of therapeutic modalities, Devon uses her clinical health specialty to utilize the mind/body connection and help you heal in the most integrative way possible. Every individual has their own lifestyle, experiences, and set of circumstances, and Devon will strive to help you through unique and individualized therapy to best help you understand your strengths and be the best version of yourself.

She has experience in clinical and partial hospitalization settings and specializes in working with ADHD, anxiety, depression trauma, interpersonal issues and low self-worth. While working together, she collaborates in a safe and supportive environment to explore and implement new tools to address your concerns. Kaitlin will work with you to empower you to take charge of your life. She wants to talk through what’s holding you back in life and get you feeling your best.

Lilly Martinez is a skilled and compassionate social worker specializing in play therapy and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). With her expertise and experience, she brings a unique perspective to her work, particularly within the foster care system. Lilly holds a Master of Social Work from Wayne State University and is a licensed Master of Social Work (LLMSW).Her training in play therapy and CBT allows her to provide effective therapeutic interventions for children, adolescents, and families. With her understanding of the challenges faced by youth today, Lilly offers support and guidance to children and their families. Her dedication to empowering individuals and her warm, empathetic approach create a safe and nurturing space for clients to explore their emotions, develop resilience, and work towards positive change.

Jill is a graduate of the University of Michigan - Dearborn with a Master’s in Criminal Justice and Administration and Northwestern University Police Staff and Command.  She also received a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from the Michigan School of Psychology. Jill is a retired police sergeant from the City of Southfield, with nearly 25 years of police experience to include time with the Detroit Police Department and the Wayne County Sheriff's Department. Jill has a passion to assist First Responders work through mental health struggles of everyday life as well as traumas from the job. In addition, Jill works with family members of First Responders to help them through their journey with their loved one.

Dennis holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Wayne State University and a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Moody Theological Seminary. He is a retired police detective from the Southfield Police Department where he served for 24 years. Dennis has experience working in Community Mental Health treating clients at the outpatient clinic for depression, anxiety and behavioral issues. He is passionate about helping adolescent males develop healthy and productive identities and resolving troubling circumstances, consequences related to poor decision-making. He works with couples and families with parenting and behavioral issues. Additionally, Dennis works with men of all ages, helping them enter into the chaos, challenges  of life with purpose and resolve.

Damien received his M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Moody Theological Seminary, and is experienced with a variety of approaches to therapy. Damien's goal in his counseling work is to create an environment where clients can feel comfortable and understood, so that they can begin to grow in confidence and self-awareness while working toward their personal therapy goals.  He works with a variety of issues, such as life transitions, social anxiety, depression, and interpersonal conflict, and he specializes in faith-integrated Christian counseling.

Ashley received her undergraduate degree in psychology at Michigan State University. She graduated with her master’s degree in clinical psychology from the Michigan School of Psychology.  Ashley began her career as a trooper for the Michigan State Police in March 2016, where she still works as a sergeant assigned as a police psychologist for the Office of Behavioral Science. She also served as a commissioned officer for the Army National Guard Military Police. Ashley uses her experience in the military and law enforcement, as well as her experience growing up in a law enforcement family, to provide understanding, humanistic therapy to first responders and military veterans. She also received training in Gottnam Level I and II couple’s counseling, which she uses to assist couples navigating the demands of military and first responder careers.

Jessica earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from The University of Toledo, then went on to earn her Master’s degree in general Clinical Psychology from Eastern Michigan University. She is experienced with a variety of therapy approaches, including (but not limited to) Gestalt, Solution-Focused, Cognitive Behavioral, Acceptance and Commitment, Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT), and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT). Jessica conducts psychological, developmental, and neuropsychological assessments, serving various ages and populations ranging from adolescents to adults. She specializes in the diagnosis of developmental and psychiatric conditions, including but not limited to Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, language disorders, behavioral disorders and problems, learning problems, adjustment and mood disorders, and intellectual disability.

Keith attended Wayne State University for his undergraduate studies where he received a BA with a major in psychology. He later went on to earn his Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Moody Theological Seminary in 2013 and immediately began working as a clinical psychologist counseling individuals, couples & families with ages ranging from early elementary all the way through to late adulthood. Keith has experience working with anxiety, depression, OCD, parenting issues, relationship boundaries & conflict, school issues, self-esteem and peer relationships. He’s very passionate & loves working with teenagers & young men especially those individuals struggling with ADHD, as well as those with video game addictions & other electronic-related problems. Keith has a natural ability to quickly create a calm, safe & relaxed environment in sessions which is rooted in his steadfast belief that every client has value and every client’s situation contains hope. Keith prefers using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and he genuinely believes every problem in life has a solution, often multiple solutions, which is why he loves working with clients in problem-solving each of their personal & unique challenges in life.

Colleen has master's degrees in clinical psychology (Michigan School of Psychology) and criminal justice (Boston University).  She is a careful listener who cares deeply about her clients and their wellbeing.  Colleen is particularly passionate about helping adolescents and adults struggling with grief/loss, divorce and relationship problems, parenting skills, and anxiety.  She also has more than ten years of experience in the field of traumatic brain injury.  Colleen's therapeutic approach addresses individual concerns while helping to identify strengths and create meaningful change.

Patricia received her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology at Moody Theological Seminary and received two Bachelor’s Degrees from Michigan State University. Patricia enjoys helping others pursue hope and learn how to live joyfully even amidst difficult circumstances. She works with many different clients and issues but specializes in working with adolescents aged 10 and older, as well as working with women’s issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma recovery, and administering psychological assessments for diagnosis. Patricia also enjoys integrating the Christian faith and biblical counseling as well as prayer when requested.

Amber received her Bachelor’s in Pastoral Ministry from Spring Arbor University. She later went on to receive her Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Moody Theological Seminary. Amber has experience working with a variety of issues, including relationship issues, anxiety, depression, and grief and loss. Amber has specialized training in treating trauma, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). Amber has clinical experience working with survivors of domestic violence, child abuse, and sexual violence. Amber’s approach utilizes mindfulness-based interventions, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), emotionally healthy relationship skills, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Amber specializes in faith-integrated Christian counseling and can be provided at the client’s request. Amber works with couples and individuals ages 16 and up.

Michelle is a compassionate therapist with a specialized focus on supporting children and women. Mike is currently a graduate student of Clinical Psychology at Madonna University.  He is a graduate of Madonna University with a master’s degree in business administration and an undergraduate degree in criminal justice.  Mike is a retired Detective Lieutenant from Garden City Police Department and has 32 years of police experience including 5 years as a Sergeant with Lathrup Village Police Department.  During his law enforcement career, he has been a crisis negotiator for 15+ years and is currently a Crisis Response Team supervisor.  Mike has a passion for helping first responders as well as those who have been deeply affected by trauma, anxiety, and depression.  His areas of concentration are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy (SF/BT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).  Mike’s goal for therapy is not only focused on the client feeling better but assisting the client to get better.

ZoeSimone Bess is pursuing a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy from Oral Roberts University and has a Bachelor of Science from Moody Theological Seminary in Integrated Ministry. She has experience working with a range of issues, such as anxiety, suicide ideation, depression, self-esteem, grief/loss, trauma, and personal and intrapersonal relationship dynamics – specializing in faith-integrated Christian counseling. She works with individuals from all walks of life, especially women, fostering emotional well-being and personal growth. ZoeSimone believes that everyone matters, and their story deserves to be heard. She is convinced that everyone has the potential to grow and heal when provided with a compassionate and supportive environment. With an innate ability to uplift, encourage, and hold space, she is dedicated to positively impacting the lives of individuals and families.

Kathryn is pursuing a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University and is projected to graduate in August 2025. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2023 from Liberty University. Kathryn is passionate about empowering clients and helping them gain skills to improve their life satisfaction and functioning. She is excited to work with people of all ages and backgrounds. Kathryn loves helping clients with various challenges, guiding them toward their goals while providing a safe, empathetic, and focused environment.

Gabrielle received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Western Michigan University with a minor in Criminal Justice. She am currently earning her Master’s degree from The Michigan School of Psychology in Clinical Psychology. Gabrielle will be graduating in August 2025 then pursuing her PHD in Clinical Psychology. She has worked with children ages 1 to 18  with various developmental disabilities and with Autistic children in school classrooms and one on one environments. Gabrielle looks forward to helping all clients on their journey by providing a safe and comfortable environment where they get the most out of each session.

Stacie is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in counseling with a concentration in clinical mental health at Wayne State University.  She also holds a Master of Arts degree in English from the University of Michigan-Flint, along with an undergraduate degree from Rochester Christian University.  Stacie utilizes a compassionate, client-centered approach to therapy, believing in the power of collaboration and understanding to address life challenges. With experience in supporting adults navigating anxiety, depression, career transitions, and educational challenges, she strives to offer a safe space for clients to explore and find strategies for healing and growth.

As chief operations officer, Laura is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the business as well as long term vision and initiatives across the organization. She brings 20 years of experience in leadership focused on providing client service, driving profitable revenue growth and developing and delivering solutions.  Her focus is on designing, communicating and implementing policies and strategies dedicated to supporting the staff and clients with an emphasis on operational excellence. Laura attended Michigan State University and earned degrees in Marketing and Advertising.


Koda | Therapy Dog In-Training

Hi, my name is Koda. I am a three year old female German Shepard. I received my obedience training at Trust and Obey Dog Training in Plymouth MI. I have a very calm personality. I love tennis balls, playing fetch, and belly rubs. I have just begun my clinical hours, and I am doing very well so far. I am available by request only.
